EVENTS HIGHLIGHTS
Premier Hockey League 2006

Premier Hockey League, born in Hyderabad last year took the second step in ultimately becoming the best and most talked about hockey league in the world. When LSM was working in the concept of PHL the aim was to make it better and bigger with each passing year without a shadow of doubt. Now one can undoubtedly say that PHL II was bigger in all respect than what was achieved in the inaugural year. PHL moved from South to the North India and Chandigarh with its newly installed flood lights was chosen to be the host for the 2nd edition. Orissa Steelers, in their debut season surprised everyone to clinch the Tier II Championship over their more fancied hot favourite Chennai Veerans. The Tier I tournament proved to be even closer. Last year’s Champions of Tier II and home favourites Chandigarh Dynamos were pipped at the pole by Star studded Bangalore Hi-flier to take the Cup to South India. The crowd response in Chandigarh was tremendous with an average attendance of more than 20,000 people per day and this figure went up to as much as 30,000 during the nail biting final weekend. It will be a real challenge for LSM in association with IHF and ESPN to improve further in the forthcoming years.
